What is Identity theft?
When someone uses your personal details — name, ID numbers, bank details — to impersonate you, open accounts, or commit fraud in your name.
Warning signs include unexpected bills, unfamiliar accounts on your credit report, and rejection for credit you never applied for. If it happens: notify your bank, consider a credit freeze so no new accounts can be opened in your name, report it to your national fraud service, and keep written records. Reduce the risk by sharing fewer personal details publicly and shredding documents with identifying information.
