What is Ransomware?

Malware that locks your files and demands payment to unlock them. Regular backups are the best defence.

Ransomware encrypts your documents and photos and demands payment — often in cryptocurrency — for the key. Paying is risky: recovery is not guaranteed and it funds more attacks. With an up-to-date backup kept separate from your computer, you can wipe the machine and restore everything, turning a disaster into an inconvenience.
